Martha Cooper

She took the “Hippietrail” to Success.

Martha was the first female photographer at the New York Post and discovered Hip Hop and graffiti in the early 80s. She still is one of the most badass female creatives out there.

Growing up surrounded by cameras she often accompanied her father on outings with the local camera club. Her first photographs where taken while still in nursery school. But her breakthrough she experienced when she met a Canadian on a motorcycle in Singapore. Together, they travelled numerous countries – Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Russia. The route is nicknamed the “hippie trail” and has been a changing point in Coopers career.

For the past 40 years, she has specialized in shooting graffiti and street art within the context of the city. Her work has been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and appeared in countless magazines from National Geographic to Vibe.
