Timba Smits is an Australian-born, Berlin-based multi-disciplinary artist, illustrator and part-time day dreamer.

His art is a fusion of analogue and digital techniques which displays an eye-popping combination of detailed graphic illustration, type and a little dose of silliness across many different mediums including: print, product design, digital publishing, animation and advertising.

A fierce D.I.Y. advocate, Timba made his own start through self-publishing in the mid-2000s with his indie arts & culture ‘boogazine’ – half book, half magazine – called Wooden Toy Quarterly (circa 2005 -2012). Since then, he has gone on to art direct and craft other magazines, zines and books for the likes of Little White Lies, Huck, Levis, Microsoft, Google, Faber and more recently, Laurence King.

In 2017, and after a decade of working mostly in editorial design, Timba ended his love affair of making magazines to focus on his core passion in art and illustration and aside from working on his own self-initiated projects, now works with some of the world’s biggest name brands including Playboy, Wired, Miller Lite, ESPN and Apple Inc.
