The US American graphic designer David Carson is known for his unconventional graphic style that revolutionized the graphic designing scene in America. He came to graphic design relatively late in life. David was a competitive surfer and a California high-school teacher when, at age 26, he enrolled in a two-week commercial design class and found a new calling.
David started to work for several print magazines, like Transworld Skateboarding, Beach Culture and Ray Gun. His characteristic chaotic spreads with overlapped photos and mixed and altered type made these magazines very successful and popular. In addition, it earned him the reputation as the godfather of “grunge typography.”
He has won over 230 Awards for his work in graphic design, photography, advertising and branding. The cover he designed for the adventure lifestyle magazine Blue was selected as one of the top 40 magazine covers of all time by the American Society of Magazine Editors.
