KUB 2022.03
Jordan Wolfson

Photo: Markus Tretter

Jordan Wolfson is known for powerful and unsettling works in a range of media and formats that interrogate the conditions of art, technology, and mass media in contemporary life. In his works, visitors find themselves in a virtual world, where skyscrapers soar beside them, as cars and yellow taxis pass along one of New York’s grand avenues. The 3D video is compelling alone in its uncanny proximity to reality. But a monstrous act begins to quickly unfold in the immediate vicinity, a man is beating another to death with a baseball bat. The viewers become witnesses, they see the victim ultimately bleed to death, implicating themselves by looking. Virtual reality, VR, becomes RV, Real Violence, 2017.

NFT | A Crypto Dimension

© Galerie Mond

The group exhibition is meant to stimulate discourse, to open eyes to the parallel between intangible art on a blockchain and haptic exhibits.

The boundary between video art and NFT blurs and thus illustrates the perpetual dissolution of boundaries in 21st-century art. Diverse artists such as Ju Schnee, Lilly Grote, Tatumm and others reflect on the current issues of war in Europe and the climate crisis. Each of the artists represents not only their own understanding of art but also a different approach to making NFTs. Only one thing unites them: The dissolution of boundaries and a view of a new medium.
