It’s a collaboration sent from heaven: Photography icon Martin Parr joins forces with the two creators of Toiletpaper Magazine, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, for a journey into the heart of a visual repertoire bursting with colours. The exhibition is called “Villa Toilet Martin Medici Paper Parr” is currently shown at Villa Médicis in Rome.

The exhibits are presented as an installation carefully curated in the Renaissance gardens of Villa Medici. Over forty photographs by Martin Parr and the Toiletpaper creators are to be seen in the exhibition, which is based on a layout designed by Alice Grégoire and Clément Périssé, two architects of the French Academy in Rome. The starting point of the already iconic show at Villa Médici is the book “ToiletMartin PaperParr”, for which the three artists have already teamed up together. The collab unites the most iconic works of Martin Parr, Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari.

The exhibition now can be interpreted as a sequel to the book and is everything art-heads and lovers of the odd wish for. The human body, food and travel are reoccurring motifs that punctuate the love of the ordinary that the artists share. Martin Parr is known to be one of the most important documentary photographers of our times with an eye for the weird in everyday situations. The two Toiletpaper Magazine creators have made a name out of themselves for on-point, fun and odd images wrapped up in a magazine that is kind of a creative life bible.

Villa Toilet Martin Medici Paper Parr unites small formats and monumental prints in the exhibition, which embrace the landscape and build a perfect contrast to the Renaissance building. Images and scenes captured from everyday life resonate to form a powerful photographic narrative. Our holiday plans are sorted!
